In this text I will talk about gender stereotypes and personal style.
I'm Nycka Nunes, I've been working in the fashion industry since 1981, I'm a global pioneer in various services and I currently work as a visual artist and stylist.
There are several ways to deal with your appearance. The form used by each person depends largely on their level of self-knowledge, and how detached they are from certain limiting concepts and beliefs. Among these beliefs, gender stereotypes.
The misogynistic culture is full of gender stereotypes. To a greater or lesser extent, many people have already believed or believe in some of these stereotypes as truths.
When a man finds it strange to wear skirts or a shirt with a floral print, this is behavior based on stereotypes, on beliefs that arose in childhood, with the boy's parents saying that flowery clothes and skirts are "a girl's thing", and, therefore, they shouldn't be part of a boy's universe.
When a woman finds it necessary to have long hair, for example, it is also a belief that arose from a sexist upbringing, from an idea that a woman needs to have hair of a certain length, dress and behave in a specific way to be desirable for men and "feminine".
These are just some examples. No one will stop being a man for crying and understanding their own emotions, nor will they stop being a woman for fighting judo or any other belief based solely on stereotypes. There are several examples of intelligent blonde women, even though blondes are stereotyped as dumb, and this is just another example of how stereotypes are limiting and prevent us from seeing the individuals behind them.
Stereotypes limit us and believing in them distances us from being authentic and having an authentic personal style. That's why I don't work with tags. Personal style does not accept tags. You can dress in an aesthetically harmonious way and not have style. And the best thing you will convey with this to anyone with reasonable self-knowledge is insecurity. Is this what you want?
If you're looking for someone to transform your wardrobe into a copy of anyone else's wardrobe or fit you into a style label like those that journalists use to describe fashion trends, I'm a horrible choice. I know how to do this, but I chose not to do it because it goes against everything I know about personal style, everything I have studied on the subject and observed in myself, my clients and people close to me on this journey of more than forty years. Even in the emergency service, I will never accept making a client become a copy of anyone. The emergency service is shallow and doesn't have many of the tools and options of the annual service, and even there I make a point of looking for original results.
My work, especially in the full service, is for those who are not afraid to be who they are. For those who don't depend on the limiting beliefs of their parents or grandparents. For those looking for an authentic and tasteful image that allows them to travel around the Western world conveying, through their appearance, exactly what they want. I serve clients from all over the world, and the entire service is done by combining my knowledge with what the clients know about themselves, their social context and their goals. As in the execution of a work of art, there are several ways to achieve each client's objectives. Follow the instructions on the services page to use all my personal style knowledge to help you develop your style. Because the annual service is a process, your limits are respected and we challenge your limitations little by little to develop your self-confidence and a style that has more positive characteristics than negative ones. Do you dare to be unique?
Nycka Nunes
